The parrotlet.net Guide To
Your New Parrotlet

Cage

Parrotlets are very small, but very active and playful. I suggest a parakeet-size cage with some horizontal bars for climbing. Bar spacing should be no wider than 1/2". A good size cage is 24"w x l6"h x l6"d. A large front door is best. Make sure you have at least two branches of different diameters which will be important for exercising his feet. Do not use sandpaper perches. The cage should never be in a draft from windows or doors.

Placement of the cage is important so it does not get direct sun at any time of the day. Keep the cage in a room with the most activity because he will want to interact with the whole family. Cover the back and one side of the cage with a towel for the first week, giving him a sense of security. Leave a radio on while you are not at home.
